Industry-first qualification will help teachers take next step in their career

A unique new qualification to help swimming teachers take the next step in their career and coordinate the safe delivery of high-quality programmes has been officially launched.

The Level 3 Swimming Coordinator Qualification is an industry first and has been created by the Swim England Qualifications team following demand from operators.

It is aimed at teachers who may be looking to move into a full-time role or looking to grow a swimming business effectively.

Those who compete the course will gain full understanding of industry, best practice, guidelines, how to recruit and develop teams plus business skills to problem solve and market a swimming offer.

Fiona Grant, Swim England Qualifications Quality Assurance Manager, said: “We’ve listened closely to the sector and we’re delighted to be meeting their needs by becoming the first in the industry to launch this type of qualification.

Safe delivery of high-quality programmes

“The Level 3 Swim Coordinator qualification has been developed collaboratively by key stakeholders from the swimming sector.

“Because of this, the knowledge, skills and understanding gained will provide a better opportunity for progression into employment.

“The qualification covers the wide range of tasks associated with the role of a swim coordinator and develops the individual’s knowledge, skills and understanding, enabling them to coordinate the safe delivery of high-quality swimming programmes.”

It is recommended that those signing up for the course hold the SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualification  – or equivalent as approved by Swim England Qualifications – but this is not a requirement.

People signing up to the Level 3 Swimming Coordinator Qualification have two years to complete the course, which takes around 58 hours of learning time – 38 of which are guided learning.
