Mark Burrows ‘honoured and proud’ to join Swim England Qualifications board

The Swim England Qualifications board has a new Independent Chair as Mark Burrows joins the organisation.

Mark has had a lifelong association with swimming having competed at junior level before later becoming a coach.

He achieved his Level 3 Senior Swimming Coach qualification, before his career pivoted to focus solely on his role within education.

Currently, Mark is an educational leader at Activate Learning Group and also has vast experience of working in high performance and development sporting environments within swimming, rugby league, rugby union and rowing.

He attributes his successful career in further education to Swim England’s Pathway Coach Programme, which provided the foundation for his understanding of teaching, learning and assessment.

Still maintaining a love for aquatics along the way, Mark remains an avid swimmer and competes in the occasional local triathlon for fun.

His new role will see him provide leadership, guidance and strategic direction for the executive team of Swim England Qualifications and the board.

A role which Mark admits he is ‘very much looking forward to’.

Shared and compelling vision

He said: “I am honoured and proud to be invited to join the Swim England Qualifications board through the next phase of its journey in serving our aquatic community and also want to thank Activate Learning for supporting this appointment.

“Swim England Qualifications are vital in ensuring we develop the aquatic workforce of the future via delivering high quality and accessible education programmes.

“I am very much looking forward to working closely with the Swim England team to achieve our shared and compelling vision of striving to inspire everyone to enjoy the water in the way that suits them.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Warwick Andrews who has successfully guided Swim England Qualifications over the last 10 years and thank him for his valuable contribution he has given throughout his time serving on the board.”

Fiona Grant, Swim England Head of Qualifications and Quality, added: “We are delighted that Mark has joined us as our new Independent Chair of the Swim England Qualifications board.

“We are very much looking forward to working with him to retain our high quality focus and move forwards into the future.”
