Child Safeguarding

This CPD provides an insight into child safeguarding issues, how to deal with those concerns and how to access support and advice.

The course reflects Wavepower, Swim England’s child safeguarding policy and procedures publication. It is also an integral part of the Stronger Affiliation process, which introduces new measures for affiliated clubs aimed at ensuring the safety of members.

The CPD is for swimming teachers, coaches and other club personnel covered by Wavepower over the age of 16 years.

This CPD provides 3 CIMSPA CPD points endorsed against CIMSPA’s Safeguarding and Protecting Children Professional Standard.

Available as an online webinar, led by tutors, allowing participants in various locations to be guided through the course from home.

Foundations of Inclusivity

The aim of this CPD is to provide individuals with the foundations of inclusivity to enable a change in mind set by adopting the social approach of inclusion to a range of environments. It is designed to be engaging throughout and ensures the individual obtains current up-to-date knowledge and tools to put inclusion into practice. The strength of this CPD lies in its co-production, using genuine case studies to illustrate how the social approach to inclusion has been applied successfully in a range of sports and environments.

The CPD is for anyone and everyone over the age of 14 years inclusive of educators, volunteers, officials, learners, teachers, coaches, athletes, and the general workforce from within and outside the leisure sector.

This CPD provides 3.5 CIMSPA CPD points endorsed against CIMSPA’s Working Inclusively Professional Standard.

Learn to Swim Helper

The aim of this CPD is to provide a Learn to Swim helper with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to effectively help qualified Swimming Teachers within a swimming lesson programme.

This CPD is aimed at anyone over the age of 14 years wanting to gain experience and / or volunteer in a Learn to Swim programme to then progress on to completing the SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) and beyond.

This CPD provides 2.5 CIMSPA endorsed CPD points.

3 hours theory and 3.5 hours pool practical.

Appropriate Handling Techniques

The aim of this CPD is to provide individuals with current up-to-date knowledge on a appropriate handling techniques in different situations within swimming lessons.

This CPD is aimed at anyone over the age of 16 years inclusive of swimming teachers and assistants, swim coordinators, schools teachers and staff delivering school swimming lessons.

This CPD provides 1.5 CIMSPA endorsed CPD points.

Safeguarding Refresher with Mental Health and Self-harm Module

This CPD provides a refresh of knowledge from that previously gained from the Swim England Safeguarding CPD and reflects Wavepower, Swim England’s child safeguarding policy and procedures publication.

This Refresher gives an overview of what safeguarding and child protection means and how to apply this in the practical situation of a club activity, an update on key legislation in relation to safeguarding, how to recognise types, signs and symptoms of abuse and importantly how to react and respond to an individual who has a concern.

The additional module focusing on Mental Health and Self-Harm is required to complete the Refresher CPD.

This Refresher CPD is relevant for all swimming teachers, coaches and other personnel working within an aquatics environment. It is a mandatory requirement for all Swim England affiliated clubs and forms an integral part of the Club Affiliation process.

In order to complete the refresher CPD all candidates must be 18 years or over and have completed the 3 hour (face to face / online) Swim England Safeguarding CPD within the last 3 years.

This CPD provides 1.5 CIMSPA CPD points endorsed against CIMSPA’s Safeguarding and Protecting Children Professional Standard.
