  • Find the right Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) course for you

  • Sign up for a Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification

This practical qualification provides learners with all the skills required to act as an assistant swimming teacher, and by the end of the course they will be able to assist a qualified Level 2 swimming teacher.

The qualification covers the legal aspects of assisting in swimming lessons; the responsibilities of a swimming assistant; the swimming pathway, fundamental movement, core aquatic skills and component parts of strokes; and the scientific principles of swimming, among other areas.

  • Use your new qualification to begin a new career

Once qualified, there are swimming assistant opportunities across the country with swim schools, leisure operators and swimming clubs to name just a few.

The Swimming Qualifications (Swim England) Facebook group is also a great forum for advice – whether you are completely new to the industry or an experienced teacher. Around 8,000 members of the aquatics family are on hand to answer questions and provide handy tips.

  • Expand your knowledge and skill-set further

After successfully completing their Level 1 qualification learners can also opt to take their Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualification, which provides the knowledge and skills to become a swimming teacher.

In addition, Swim England Qualifications offers a wide range of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) courses. These short courses help teachers and assistants to stay up-to-date with industry changes, provide new ideas to keep sessions fresh or enhance their skills to help them become the best teacher they can be.
