First qualification endorsed by CIMSPA assistant swimming teacher standardJuly 12, 2019 Latest News
Swim England’s Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification has become the first to be endorsed by the new CIMSPA assistant swimming teacher standard.
The Level 1 qualification has been the entry point for tens of thousands of swimming assistants to make their first steps into the industry – with many progressing through Swim England’s Level 2 Teaching Swimming and continuous professional development qualifications.
The existing Level 1 qualification already exceeds the standards required from CIMSPA (The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity) to meet its new assistant swimming teacher standard.
With eight out of ten people choosing Swim England for their swim teaching and CPD qualifications, the organisation continues to strengthen its position as the market leader in this sector.
High quality qualification
Simon Stevens, Head of Swim England Qualifications, said: “We are delighted that our Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification has been endorsed by CIMSPA’s assistant swimming teacher standard.
“The high standards already in place mean that the existing Swim England Level 1 qualification already meets the requirements of the new standard. This is testament to the quality and robustness of the qualification, which has been developed and refined over many years.
Swim England’s Level 1 qualification provides learners with the skills to be able to assist a qualified Level 2 swimming teacher. These include:
- The legal aspects of assisting in swimming lessons
- The responsibilities of a swimming assistant
- The swimming pathway, fundamental movement, core aquatic skills and component parts of strokes
- Scientific principles of swimming
- What makes up a lesson plan, equipment and communications skills
- How to identify anxiety and use of motivational techniques
Supporting learners on their journey
Simon added: “The qualification allows learners to achieve a solid foundation in what it takes to assist a qualified swimming teacher and to identify their next career steps.
“Swim England remains the clear market leader in the provision of swim teaching qualifications and CPD opportunities for the industry.
“We deliver the highest quality qualifications available through our established national network of Approved Training Centres, who support learners every step of the way in their journey to be the best swimming teachers and assistants.”
