School Swimming CPDs

The National Curriculum Training Programme (NCTP) is made up of two training courses. They use both theory and practical sessions to teach you the most effective ways of delivering school swimming lessons.

Support Teacher of School Swimming – Primary

Support Teacher of School Swimming (Key Stages 1 and 2) is part of the Swim England National Curriculum Training Programme (NCTP). Once completed, you will be equipped to actively assist a more qualified teacher in teaching core aquatic skills to small groups of similar ability learners within the context of a school swimming programme.

This training has been developed to deliver the right training to teachers and assistants to ensure school children receive the best quality aquatics education.

The CPD is for primary school teachers and support staff or students involved in initial teacher training.

15 hours dry time.

Aquatic Skills of School Swimming – Primary

Aquatic Skills (Key Stages 1 & 2) is part of the SE National Curriculum Training Programme. The Swim England National Curriculum Training Programme has been developed to deliver training to teachers and assistants to equip them with the right skills and knowledge to deliver high quality school swimming lessons. .

This CPD course is open to anyone working in a school swimming environment or students involved in initial teacher training.

Six hours consisting of both dry time and pool sessions.

Teacher of School Swimming – Primary

Teacher of School Swimming (Key Stages 1 and 2) is part of the Swim England National Curriculum Training Programme (NCTP). Once completed, you will be equipped to plan and evaluate session plans in line with the national curriculum, and teach independently in a school swimming programme.

This CPD course is open to anyone working in a school swimming environment or students involved in initial teacher training. The Support Teacher of School Swimming CPD must have been completed before attending this course.

Nine hours consisting of both dry time and pool sessions.

Support Teacher and Teacher of School Swimming – Primary

This CPD course is open to anyone working in a school swimming environment or students involved in initial teacher training

The CPD is for Key Stage 3 school teachers.

15 hours consisting of both dry time and pool sessions.

Support Teacher and Teacher of School Swimming – Secondary

Support Teacher and Teacher of School Swimming (Key Stages 3 and 4) will help teachers to create a safe learning environment, develop aquatic skills and stroke technique, and be able to plan and prepare aquatic sessions.

This CPD course is for Key Stage 3 and 4 PE teachers.

15 hours consisting of both dry time and pool sessions.

School Swimming and the National Curriculum

This CPD course will equip swimming teachers who deliver school swimming with the knowledge and understanding of swimming in the national curriculum. It covers where swimming sits in relation to physical education, how to engage pupils in their learning, and how to use aquatic activities to support learning in other areas of the curriculum.

This CPD course is for Level 1 and 2 swimming teachers who deliver school swimming.

Three hours dry time.
